WINE & CHOCOLATE PAIRING: $30 per person ($25 wine club members)
Some say it can’t be done, pairing wine with chocolate, but if you have the right chocolate to complement the right wine, it can be a match made in heaven. Whether you are pairing a delicate white chocolate or a lively dark chocolate with wine, there are a few pairing tips to keep in mind.

THE WINE IN THE GLASS: $25 per person ($20 wine club members)
Learn how to evaluate and describe wine like a pro in addition to tips on the proper technique for opening a bottle, the when and why behind decanting a wine and the selection of the proper stemware to increase your enjoyment of the wine in your glass.

SENSORY ANALYSIS: $25 per person ($20 wine club members)
Putting flavors into words. Let your own palate be your guide. Nobody is born knowing how to taste wine. It is a skill you can easily learn. And practicing is a pleasure! Come and join us for this very informative class.

FOOD & WINE PAIRING: $30 per person ($25 wine club members) Come join us for an informative class & learn to apply a few simple principles to turn your palate into an increasingly confident guide. We’ll unlock some pairing secrets & provide tips & insights for everyone from novice to connoisseur. (Fee includes sample food pairings.)

Mention a wine party to someone and the first thought that comes to mind is “cheese”. Cheese and wine is a classic pairing – like peanut butter and jelly or cookies and milk. Wine and Cheese have a long history together. Both are natural products, created using a standard process but with a myriad of results. This hands-on workshop is a perfect introduction to the basics and was designed to offer many ways for you to expand your knowledge and understanding of wine and cheese, delve into the art of pairing the two and celebrate examples from around the world. Join us for a lively discussion and tasting of some classic combinations!

Instructor Monica Chappell has been involved in wine professionally for over 15 years. She started her career by running the marketing department of her family’s winery, Stony Ridge in the Livermore Valley. She then became a wine buyer for Cost Plus World Markets. After 5 years of corporate life, she signed on with the first and largest internet wine retailer, Wine.com buying wines and managing their 5 wine clubs. Currently, Monica writes a monthly wine column for the Lafayette Today Newspaper, as well as offers wine appreciation classes here at Pleasant Hill Wine Merchants and through the City of Lafayette /City of Walnut Creek at their respective Community Centers.
